S&B Wins Gold in Graphis Design Competition

We have just been informed that Sargent & Berman has won a gold award for excellence in design for the Cunard travel poster series by Graphis, The International Journal of Visual Communications. The posters will appear in the next Graphis Poster Annual 2011.

Our design features Art Deco inspired original illustrations and was inspired by the rich heritage of travel posters that were used to brand ocean travel in the early 20th century. Considered a lost art form, and widely collected, we have successfully revived the classic travel poster as an integral part of Cunard's current global advertising and marketing program.

Updating a Brand We Grew Up With

We were recently asked to give

Nissin Cup Noodles a face lift.

We used to live on this stuff in

college and still enjoy it. So it

was a lot of fun to redesign. The

client wanted to upgrade their look

without changing the logotype.

Below are a few of the dozens of

designs that were presented.

Of course, we couldn't resist playing with the logotype.

In the end, they chose to test the design below.

We are big foodies, so we always love a tasty food

packaging challenge. Can you guess which direction

the client selected? Look for it in the frozen food

section of your supermarket soon.

Our new branding spot for UCLA Health System

This 15 sec. spot premiered at the Staples Center

during the Laker game on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

We are in our second year of brand development for the UCLA Health System.

The focus of our most recent work is to help them create an effective way to

promote their services to the wider patient community and to foster a spirit of

partnership between physicians, staff and patients. In response, we came up with

the “It begins with U” branding theme. Anchored by a fun 15-second animated spot,

the messaging plays off the relationship between “you” — the patient — and the

“U” in UCLA to reinforce the idea that UCLA Health System is a caring partner

for a holistic approach to good health.

Our client, the Becker Group, develops traveling exhibits for major motion pictures.
They created one for the Harry Potter franchise, and came to us to create a compelling
support website and print collateral. We designed a poster series, banners, postcards,
bookmarks, lobby cards... just to name a few.
